East of the centre, past La Caleta, the city slows down. Pedregalejo and El Palo are old fishing neighbourhoods that locals come to on weekends for espetos and a long lunch.
How to get there. 25-minute walk from La Malagueta along the paseo, or bus 11 from Alameda Principal. Driving is easy out of summer.
Pedregalejo has the prettiest beachfront — a row of low tiled houses, a wooden boardwalk, and Málaga's most famous chiringuito row (El Tintero, El Cabra, Casa Pedro).
El Palo is a few minutes further on — even more local, with fishing boats still pulled up on the beach. Try El Caleño for a no-frills lunch.
Finish with ice cream at Heladería Casa Mira El Palo and walk back as the sun drops.
